Ponda: Dengue cases declining, outbreak denied

Ponda health officer Dr Smita Parsekar, in Tamil Nadu advised residents not to panic as the instances of 18 people suffering from dengue fever were only suspected. Further Dr Kalpana Mahatme, Directorate of health services (DHS) nodal officer for vector-borne diseases also rejected additionally rejected any outbreak of dengue fever withinside the area.

According to Parsekar, Dattagad Bethora recorded the most fever cases, all of which have since been treated. There were no new instances recorded in the last four to five days, and current cases were decreasing. She attributed the drop to the Ponda health centres swift and aggressive action, which included source reduction initiatives, education and counselling, awareness, and on-field inspection. To avoid an outbreak, all preventative precautions were done. 

At Altinho, Panaji, health minister Vishwajit Rane announced that all municipal councils had agreed to put into effect dengue preventative measures together with fogging respective jurisdictions. (ETHealthWorld, 27, 2022)
